The future of real estate zoning in SoHo

Baruch hosts sixth annual audit conference
The Sixth Annual Auditing conference offered a full day of panels and individual speakers touching on developments in auditing, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). Upon completion of the conference students could receive up to seven CPE credits.

On Friday, Nov. 11 Golden Key International Honour Society held its Induction Ceremony. In his opening address, Brian Lung noted this is Golden Key's 23rd annual induction. On Friday, Nov. 4 The Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity held its 4th Annual Symposium on Sustainability. There were a total of three panels throughout the day. Today's Technologies: Is fracking the future of fossil fuels? discussed hydraulic fracturing, commonly called fracking, which is a controversial way to extract natural gas from rock formations.

Doctor David Schulman, Baruch alumni 1964 and distinguished visiting professor at Baruch interviewed the alumni about their insights into their own Wall Street careers.

Richard Grasso, former chairman and CEO of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), was the featured speaker at the 10th Annual Russell Banks CEO Leadership Lecture Series, which took place on Nov. 17. John Elliot, dean of the Zicklin School of Business interviewed Grasso during the lecture series.

MFE program ranked top fifth in the nation
Baruch's Masters Program in Financial Engineering (MFE) has surpassed many rival programs in the nation. It is now ranked fifth among 22 other programs by QuantNetwork, a forum for quantitative mathematics that was started in 2003 by a graduate of the Baruch MFE program.

Following passion leads to career success
At the age of 20, Patrick ‘Sincere' Thompson, turned down a full time job on Wall Street in order to chase his passion. Despite his relative youth at the time Thompson was earning $80,000 annually as an investment broker for Morgan Stanley when he decided to work as an intern for five dollars a day at a recording studio.

On Nov. 16, John Grifonetti discussed his experiences as an entrepreneur during the 97th Mitsui USA Lunchtime forum. Terrence Martell, the director of the Weissman Center for International Business, described the forums as having two functions: to show the students in attendance how successful people behave, and to provide substance for a conversation.

The guest speaker was Philip Vasan, managing director of the investment banking division at Credit Suisse. "The timing of this talk is really good, not only because of what's happening on the streets in protest but in perspective of careers," said Vasan.

First woman on Wall Street at Baruch
Muriel Siebert is considered the first woman in finance, as stated by John Elliot, the Dean of the Zicklin School of Business during The Claire Mason Lecture Series: Women of Distinction. During Elliot's introduction of Siebert he stated that, according to American Banker magazine she is one of the Top 21 most powerful women of finance as of 2010.
